These settings in Internet Explorer (IE) are required to view VISCO documents. Please follow the steps below for each user’s PC/laptop, including the PC/laptop they use away from the office. Occasionally an IE automatic update will reset the settings to the IE default, this means the user will not be able to view documents or reports. If this happens the user should follow the instructions below to reset their IE settings.

 

Workstation-Setup-for-VISCO – New for 2015

 Set up Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer (IE):

1. In IE go to : Tools, Internet Options, Security (tab)

2. Select Trusted Site (green checkmark icon), click the “Sites” button.

3. In “Add This Website to the Zone”, type EITHER:

-For Network Installations: http://servername.domainname/vis//Server Name/VIS

OR – For Hosted Webservice customers:

https://www.viscowebservice.com/your VISCO system name  (note the https, not http)

4.  Click “Add” (if checked, uncheck “Require Server Verification…”)

5. Click “Close”

  

                                         

 Modify security for Active X components of Trusted Site in IE

1. From within IE: Tools, Internet Options, Security

2. Change Security for this zone Level to “Low”

3. Select Custom Level, Click Enable for the following:

  • Download all Signed ActiveX Controls
  • Download all unsigned ActiveX Controls
  • Initialize and script ActiveX Controls
  • Allow Active X Scriptlets

4.  Click “OK”, then “OK” on the warning

5.  Close out of Internet Options   

Create a new desktop shorcut called “VISCO”

Open IE, and type in the URL (From Trusted Sites above) click “go” or enter

  1. Go to File, select “Send shortcut to desktop”
  2. Right click on the desktop shortcut, select “Rename”
  3. Type in “VISCO”

Prevent the shortcuts to web apps from opening over existing browser windows

  1. In IE go to: Tools, Internet Options, Advanced (tab)
  2. Under “Browsing”, Uncheck “Reuse windows for launching shortcuts”

To ensure proper page reloading 

  1. In IE go to: Tools, Internet Options,
  • IE6: Temporary Internet Files, Settings
  • IE7 and IE8: Select “Settings” under Browsing History

2.  Under “Check for new versions of stored pages”

3.  Change it to “Every time I visit the webpage”

Enable cookies (required for VISCO security requirements)

In IE go to: Tools, Internet Options, Privacy (tab)

  1. If the Privacy setting is set to anything above Medium:
  2. Go to Edit, and add this site to the list of Allowed sites by typing the URL for your Trusted Sites (above)
  3. Select “Allow”, then click OK

Disable Popup blockers for your VISCO site – whether Yahoo or other – you will be unable to log into the VISCO appplication otherwise. (Internet Options/Privacy Tab)

If checked, uncheck ‘Turn on Popup Blocker’

Modify your Excel Settings to allow the report to generate 

Office 2007

  1. Open a blank workbook
  2. Click on the Microsoft Icon
  3. Select Excel Option at the bottom of the menu
  4. SelectTrustCenter
  5. Select Active x
  6. Select Enable
  7. Then select Macros on the left bar
  8. Select Enable
  9. At the bottom click ok
  10. Close Excel

Office 2010/2013

  1. Open a blank workbook
  2. Select File Menu
  3. Select Options
  4. SelectTrustCenter
  5. Select Trust Center Settings button
  6. Select Active X and enable all controls, be sure “SAFE MODE” checkbox is unchecked.
  7.  Select Macros and enable all macros, be sure to check box – TRUST VBA PROJECTS!
  8. Select Protected View and uncheck all boxes
  9. Select External Content and enable all data
  10. Save and Close Excel

Compatiblity with IE – In Internet Explorer click on TOOLS, if you don’t see TOOLS, go to Alt T and it should appear in a toolbar across the top.  From there, you will choose “Compatibility View Settings” and this screen will appear:

In the “Add this website” box, enter your VISCO web address and click on the ADD button.  Then Close.

***IMPORTANT UPDATE:  If your version of VISCO has been updated to 4.1, you should NOT add your website in Compatibility View (with some exceptions).  We recommend VISCO users currently on Version 4.0 or higher upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 or use Google Chrome.
